Ode to our Grandfather's

Dear Friends

Father’s Day is always a special occasion at KuierKos. We love knowing that we can make any dad’s day a little more special - whether it’s with a bit of biltong, boerewors, or simply a lekker melktert shared around the table.

In our house, my dad always believed there shouldn’t only be one special day to celebrate fathers. And in many ways, he is right. But sometimes life gets busy, and we need a moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the dads and father figures in our lives.

Andreas and I feel incredibly fortunate that we still have our dads with us. I often think about how blessed I am to still call my dad when I need advice, encouragement, or even just a chat.

Growing up, I was always a little jealous of the relationship my dad and brother shared. But as the years went by, my dad and I built our own special relationship. He was always a hard worker and a great example to his five children. He is a man of faith and has always lived his life according to his values. He loves making jokes and teasing the people around him. Throughout his life, he has helped so many people, often without expecting anything in return. Overall, he is simply a good man.

The day I married Andreas was also the day I truly started appreciating my father-in-law. He is a man of few words, more of an intellectual. Whenever he visited, we always seemed to have a project together - working in the garden, fixing something around the house, or simply sharing a glass of wine while chatting about life. Unfortunately, old age has made travelling more difficult for him, but we still try to speak regularly, and those conversations remain very special to us.

Each father figure plays an important role in our lives. We need those people to guide us, support us, and help us grow into our own potential. So this Father’s Day, make sure to celebrate those special figures in your life - whether it is your dad, grandfather, stepdad, father-in-law, or someone who simply stood beside you when you needed them most.
