KuierKos ready-meals are a saving grace ...
Dear Kuierkos Friends,
are you enjoying the last bit of summer? I'm still holding out hope for that thing they call an Indian summer, but after a weekend full of rain, it seems all we have left is hope... and maybe a bit of patience.
It's been a hectic couple of weeks here in the KuierKos household. After three years in our new home, we finally decided it was time to renovate the bathroom and kitchen. Like any old house with good bones, some updates are inevitable, but with an old Dutch house you never really know what surprises are waiting behind the walls.
I remember the day I asked Andreas to just fill some holes in the kitchen after my recipe bookcase kept falling. I left him alone for less than 30 minutes, and when I came back, he had made so much KAK! Instead of just filling the holes, he had ripped off all the wallpaper he discovered covering the wall. I was so embarrassed, my kuiermense were coming the next day, and suddenly we had a stripped kitchen that looked like nobody had cared about it for years.
And the saga didn't stop there. We had to live like that for three years because we discovered a big leak from the shower, which is directly above the kitchen. No wonder the wallpaper came off so quickly! Over those years, we tried to fix the shower multiple times, hoping to delay the major renovation. Unfortunately, bad plumbing caught up with us.
If you know me, I always want to get the best price, but no matter how carefully you plan, renovations always cost about 1.5 times more than expected, and a three-week project always stretches to six. At one point, I even wanted to rough it and live in the garage with a pop-up shower and a braai every evening, but Andreas put his foot down. "No way," he said. "You're not doing that." Such a sissie.
Honestly, I'm secretly grateful! Now we can stay in a bungalow park just 20 minutes from the shop. He was right, we would have survived in the garage, but not happily.
In the middle of all this chaos, I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful team supporting us and stepping in where we can't. One big lifesaver has been the homemade meals from KuierKos — now I truly understand why that became part of our offering 🤣
So, you won't see me and Coco at the shop on Wednesdays. I'll be walking her and planning my next move. I always joke that I come up with a new store layout when Andreas makes me angry, but really it's just me loving to play Tetris, always creating something new.
I hope to see you soon in the store! Just know that between all our craziness, you are always welcome at KuierKos, your home away from home. 💛
Warm regards,
Marnella & Andreas
