Bokkie, it's cold outside! ⛄❄️🌨️
Dear Kuierkos Family,
I hope you are all doing well and that the start of this exciting new year has been a good one! I must say, all the snow was quite a surprise. Coco was definitely the one who enjoyed it the most… and perhaps Andreas too, since he could stay home 😄.
Here at Kuierkos, deliveries have been a bit of a challenge. The courier service is not running at full speed, but the good news is that by next week we should be back to our normal great service. It’s amazing how something as beautiful as snow can have such a big impact on the service industry!
All this winter weather brought back memories of my very first encounter with snow. I remember coming to Europe as an au pair. I left South Africa just six days after writing my matriek exams — I didn’t even wait for the results! I landed in Frankfurt and then flew on to Münster in a small plane. I remember looking out of the window, admiring the beautiful landscape below.
Stepping out of the plane into that cold weather was a whole different story — ice cold! My host family met me, and I was so happy to sit between the host kids’ car seats, warm and cosy. Then came the real surprise: my host dad, Bernhard, asked if I would like an ice cream before we went home. I honestly thought he was joking. It was quite a new experience for a girl coming from a farm, where ice cream was something you only got after Sunday lunch — and definitely not in the middle of the week, and certainly not in winter! Never in my life had I imagined eating ice cream with snow lying outside.
Now that the roads are looking a bit better, we hope to see you back in the shop soon. I’ll make sure we have warm pies, good coffee, and lekker pieces of cake — all packaged with a warm South African smile and a drukkie.
Stay warm, and thank you, as always, for your patience and support.
With love,
Marnella & Andreas
