Dear KuierKos Family,

Let me be honest with you… the highlight of my day isn’t figuring out what’s for dinner. It’s not standing in front of the fridge, staring at the chicken and hoping inspiration will magically appear. It’s not calling, repeatedly “Kids! Andreas! Come sit down!” while everyone somehow has something in their ears and can’t hear a word I say.

But then… we finally sit down. We say grace. The noise softens and something shifts. That’s the moment I look forward to.

Because suddenly, it’s not about what’s on the table anymore. It’s about who’s around it. Stories start pouring out. Little moments from the day. Big opinions. Funny things. Hard things. Sometimes it’s calm and gentle, like a slow Sunday afternoon. Other times, it turns into a full-on debate.

After all, as expats, we are raising South African kids with a strong sense of home, in a Dutch world full of opinions. So, around our table, it’s not just food being shared. It’s culture. Identity. Laughter. And sometimes a bit of negotiation too. Anne says she feels South African at home and Dutch when she steps outside. I think that’s exactly what makes these moments so special. We’re building something in between. Yes, it might start with chaos…
But it always ends with what truly matters. A table full of stories, laughter, and togetherness.
