🔥🥪 Join the Braaiboordjie Movement this Heritage Day aka Braaidag!

Dear Kuierkos Friends,

Heritage Day aka Braaidag is tomorrow – a time when South Africans everywhere light the fire, gather around the braai, and celebrate the flavours that bring us together. 🇿🇦✨

So, I decided that we have to start a Braaiboordjie Movement.

A Braaibroodjie Movement is more than just food – it's a celebration of culture, connection, and community. This iconic South African side – bread, cheese, tomato, onion, and chutney – toasted to perfection over the coals, is edible nostalgia. Every family adds their own twist, and every braaibroodjie carries stories of laughter, gatherings, and just a little chaos.

At KuierKos, we know a lekker braai needs both great meat and the perfect braaibroodjie.

A Tale of Two Braaibroodjies

I come from a big family – four rugby-playing brothers, so food was always serious business. For Andreas, braaibroodjies were a humble affair: brown bread, Stork margarine, tomato, onion, and cheese. His mother would tie each one with thread, like tiny edible parcels, so they didn't fall apart on the fire. Simple, modest, and full of love.

Then, 21 years ago, Andreas discovered the toeknyp rooster way – and there was no turning back. With four hungry brothers, there had to be lots of braaibroodjies. Think butter on the inside and out, Mrs Ball's Chutney for that sweet kick, all pressed in the rooster until golden and glorious. Same dish, totally upgraded – basically a family-sized hug in a sandwich.

And that's the magic of the braaibroodjie. No matter how you make it – humble parcels or rooster-pressed perfection – it tells your story... and fills a few very hungry bellies along the way.
